Background to the NEYH programme for IAPT

There are five groups of organisations that are participating in the programme:

  1. Newcastle PCT and Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside Mental Health Trust.
  2. Sheffield Mental Health Partnership
  3. North Lincolnshire PCT
  4. Tees, and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust with Langbaurgh PCT and Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale PCT
  5. York & Selby, Craven and Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire PCT’s.

The participating organisations aim to provide evidence that providing stepped improvements in access to psychological therapies for people with mental health problems will result in improved well-being, service user satisfaction and choice.

The regional programme will:

  • focus on improved access to psychological therapies for working age adults
  • concentrate on the range of therapeutic interventions needed to deliver improved outcomes for people experiencing anxiety and depression
  • adopt NICE guidelines for implementing a stepped care model when managing anxiety and depression.

The RDC has established a regional ‘learning network’ to assist the participating organisations in their acceleration of learning and implementation of the stepped care model for managing anxiety and depression. The network meets on a bi-monthly basis and reports, oversees, and directs regional progress.

An initial ‘project plan’ has been developed which identifies activities and timescales.
